W11 Reflection: Entrepreneurial Journal

Looking back on this week and the things I have learned, there are several things that stand out to me. I enjoyed the resources about finding a work/life balance. This is something close to my heart because my husband and I have been in multiple jobs where we have really had to think and ponder about work life balance and have needed to look at our lives and decide if we felt our jobs were going to be worth it in the long run.

My husband used to be able to work from home. His job was great and the best part about it was the family life and work life balance. He was around in the mornings to see the kids off to school. We ate lunch together almost daily, and he didn’t have a commute so his days were much shorter. I look back on those days and remember them as some of the happiest in my life. But career wise he was still hoping for growth. He ended up being considered for a much higher position- and then he was offered the job. It meant going back to the office. And it meant adding an hour commute each way. It meant a lot more money. And it meant the growth he was looking for in his career. He took the job and has been in the role for over a year now. Work/life balance is not nearly as great and we have had many conversations around the topic. But at this time we both feel like it is experience that he couldn’t pass up. We are praying that it will be worth it in the end and that we will not look back and have regrets.

Life is full of making choices that aren’t always black and white. I am grateful though to be living this life and that we can always choose to change how things are going in our lives. It is never to late to shift or make changes that will benefit ourselves and our families.
